One day I received a phone call to play bagpipes at a funeral in the city of Dublin, Ireland, near from where I live. The family asked if I could be there for 5 pm
With traffic at that time I just did, and began pipe, the hearse through the streets of Dublin to the church. It was rush hour. I piping along streets full of traffic. Some cars had to change lanes to make way and let us pass. I was wondering what everyone thought as they sat in jams hour rush traffic. Were they thinking about their own lives, or was it just another disadvantage of their journey home? Well, each day we approaching the house from which we came, and the dead, I play the appropriate song – "Going Home".
It There was a huge crowd at the funeral. The lady had to be a character well known in the region. I piped the coffin into the church and its broad family followed closely. Within minutes, the church was packed many people having to stand in the aisles. I decided to stay and hear what is said about this popular lady.
As the priest steered the microphone into which to speaking, people were still in the church already crowded.
"In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit," he said. "Mary, as we all know very well known. Here are all eight children of Mary, his seventy-three grandchildren, his ninety-six great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and two great-great-great grandchildren! "The priest paused a moment." Now it is a kind inheritance! "he says.
Totally fantastic, I thought. It is interesting to note that at the end of our life things are really important are mentioned at the funeral. The priest does not speak of his property portfolio, or how much money she had saved during her life or she was driving the sports car last BMW. I heard the priest talk about what the deceased had served their families and their communities – organizing events, writing books, being a tall woman, a great husband, or Great Mother or father Essentially, it was what that person has given people and life.
